Guerrilla Film-makers Workshops and Residentials

Get onto one of our TASTER SESSIONS now, and if you want more you can then go to two RESIDENTIAL WEEKENDS - Starts Monday 8th September 2008 Learn the tricks and tips of guerrilla film-making by hands on use of professional and low-budget equipment. Discover how independent film-making works and develop your own production techniques to help you create films, animations, documentaries and all manner of ‘guerrilla’ media. We’ll be using Bluetooth, mobile phones, the internet, DVD and TV, and looking at digital video, animation, editing techniques, story-boarding, visual narrative and production planning. SCREEN WRITING WORKSHOPS IN NORTH CUMBRIA

Due to writing commitments, the autumn round of Jim Eldridge’s Writing Workshops in north Cumbria will be the last until 2010. Jim is an award-winning scriptwriter with 250 TV scripts broadcast, 3 shown as feature films, 60 books published and 250 Radio 4 scripts broadcast. His twice-yearly Writing Workshops are held in the small picturesque village of Bowness on Solway on the north Cumbria coast, at the western end of Hadrian’s Wall. Read more »

KESWICK FILM FESTIVAL 2009

The 10th Keswick Film Festival is planned for 12th – 15th February 2009. Put it in your diary, book your bed and breakfast in Keswick and get those short films ready to submit. KFF are resting after the success of this year’s double billing in February and April but will be returning to their normal February slot and probably having a shorts competition again.

THE ROBIN HUTT AWARD FOR ASPIRING FILMMAKERS

This award has been created to honour the memory of Robin Hutt, a founder member of the film club at the Roxy, whose hard work and guidance helped to maintain the club’s proud achievement of having one of the largest memberships in the country. An award of £500 will be offered once a year to a budding Cumbrian filmmaker. The award will be aimed at filmmakers who are actively involved in filmmaking and may need a boost to get their film off the ground or to develop their filmmaking skills. Read more »

Camera Skills Courses in Cumbria

Leading Industry Professional, Jon Chappell, has designed a new 5 day Camera and Edit course starting this summer. Everything he has learned in 20 years of filming will be jammed into this intense and action packed week. The idea is that graduating students will have a solid foundation of the skills needed to become a professional Videographer, Producer/Director (PD) and Freelance Camera Crew. Read more »

SHORELINE FLMS - WORLD CINEMA 2007-2008

Welcome to the second programme for the exciting World Cinema season of 16 screenings and special events to be held in South Cumbria during 2007/8. We hope you’ll join us in sampling some of the best new films from around the world, each complemented by screenings of the Orange BAFTA Short Film nominees and winners alongside other selected quality shorts. The second half of the season will be running from December through to March 2008, providing the opportunity to see acclaimed films such as I’m Not There (Todd Haynes) and the Ian Curtis biopic Control (Anton Corbijn). Additionally, March’s screening at The Roxy will be a tailored Film Networking Event for filmmakers and enthusiasts, featuring guest speakers from the film industry showcasing their work, discussing independent filmmaking and providing advice to the audience. It will be a great opportunity for local filmmakers to network and gain specific advice from industry experts. Read more »

SHORT FILM SUBMISSIONS

Cumbria Filmmakers Network are currently looking for more short films to be submitted for the Short Film Screening Nights. The films can be from low budget to high budget. We would especially like more films to be submitted for our 2008 screenings from filmmakers with a Cumbrian connection, however we would also like to promote short films made by filmmakers from the rest of the North West and indeed UK.
