Camera Skills Courses in Cumbria
Leading Industry Professional, Jon Chappell, has designed a new 5 day Camera and Edit course starting this summer. Everything he has learned in 20 years of filming will be jammed into this intense and action packed week. The idea is that graduating students will have a solid foundation of the skills needed to become a professional Videographer, Producer/Director (PD) and Freelance Camera Crew.
Only 2 places are available on each course which run from Monday to Friday. Course content includes:
– The basics of camera functions
– The art of handheld and shooting from a tripod
– Basic to advanced framing
– Location sound recording
– Location lighting
– Using filters
– Directing
– Shooting a sequence for the edit
– Rigging mini-cams
– How to edit on Final Cut Pro and produce DVD‘s
Camera kits available to students include:
– Sony 750 HDCam
– Sony 709 Digibeta
– Sony DSR-450 DVCam
– Sony Z1 HDV
– Sony PD150 DVCam
– Panasonic SD9 solid sate HD mini-cam
– Radio mics
– Arri lighting kit
– Mini-jib
– Panavision matte-box and filters
– Mac Powerbook with Final Cut Pro and 22 inch HD screen
During this intense week of training students will film the following activities in the dramatic scenery of Cumbria and then edit the rushes to produce a short film:
– Landscape scenes
– Off-road buggy driving
– Microlight pre-flight checks and taxi
– Stunt kite flight
– Celebrity interviews
– Sheep dog running
If you would like to book a course then please e-mail Jon your preferred dates and he will check with his filming diary. Jon has just returned from 3 weeks shooting on the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious for Ch 5 and his next job is to produce 12 fishing shows for a subscription fishing website but he does have some flexibility for running the courses.
A place on the course is £1800 and you need to book into a local B&B which will be extra. If a second person books the same week the price is reduced to £1200 per person (Max 2). I understand this is expensive but the value of the kit provided is over £150,000 and the earning potential of a freelance camera operator is £600 per day with kit. A 50% deposit payable to M60 Television Ltd is required to book a place.
This is the only course Camera Skills will be running this year. Cumbria Filmmakers Network has been on some of Jon’s Courses and recommends them highly. For more details check out www.cameraskills.tv You can email Jon Chappell at info@cameraskills.tv or telephone him on (01539) 623503
